Year in Review for Internal Medicine 2016 – Summary of Important Developments

On the 14^th of January 2017, representatives of the internist disciplines reported on many new and exciting developments at the traditional Year in Review for Internal Medicine in Magdeburg in the Congress and Cultural Center Fichte.

Despite the typical weather for this time of the year and slippery streets, the event was well attended with over 250 participants. After a welcome address by Prof. R. Braun-Dullaeus, Prof. R. Kirstein (Faculty for Economic Science, OvGU) opened the event with a lecture on the effect of the Nobel Prize in Economics on medicine. He outlined a complex representation of the decision processes in the science of management, which also apply in the field of medicine.  The drafting of contracts and their influence on decision making and development potential were especially thoroughly discussed.  Afterwards, representatives of internist disciplines reported on many exciting developments in the previous year, the most important of which are presented in Ärzteblatt Sachsen-Anhalt (28(2017) 4, S. 19-22).
