More than 20 research institutes and clinical departments form the 3 pillars of the GC-I³ - education, research and clinical care. You can find a short tour of the Health Campus for Immunology, Infectiology and Inflammation here and more information concerning the research focus ‘Immunology and Molecular Medicine of Inflammation’ here.
Development of the Health Campus Immunology, Infectiology and Inflammation
Medical practitioners and scientists of the medical faculty of the Otto-von-Guericke University have been researching the molecular processes that cause inflammation in various clinical situations for many years. The research focus ‘Immunology and Molecular Medicine of Inflammation’ has existed here for over 20 years. Since 2001, this topic has been systematically built up and strengthened. Currently, 28 professors from 2 theoretical institutes, 6 clinical-theoretical institutes and 12 clinical departments on the medical campus are part of this research focus, which is excellently connected on the local, regional and international level. At the local level, this includes close cooperations with other departments of the OvGU, the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems and the Leibniz Institute of Neurology. At the regional level, the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research in Braunschweig is the most important partner to Magdeburg’s inflammation researchers. In order to better concentrate these scientific activities under one umbrella, the Faculty Advisory Board of the Medical Faculty decided to form the Health Campus Immunology, Infectiology and Inflammation. In a meeting on the 6th of May 2014, the Faculty Advisory Board unanimously voted to form the GC-I³.
