Else Kröner Research College is Renewed for Another Year

The Else Kröner Research College is an important part of the research done at the Health Campus Immunology, Infectiology and Inflammation – and it was just renewed for another year!

Medical research is an important building block for the future of healthcare.  The Else Kröner Fresenius Foundation puts a strong emphasis on the sponsorship of highly qualified young doctors who carry out demanding research tasks in addition to their daily work in the clinic.  This is carried out through the establishment of the Else Kröner Research College (EKFK) at selected institutions for higher education in Germany.  In the first funding period, one of these innovative research colleges was approved in 2014 with a total funding of one million Euros.

This interdisciplinary qualification and research program allows the scholarship holders to start a career as a clinician scientist.  The unique aspect of this program is the combination of exceptional independent research with the clinical postgraduate training of a physician.

EKFK Kollegiaten 2017After the end of the first funding period, the Else Kröner Research College successfully had its funding renewed for an additional year.  “Almost all of the eight scholarship holders from the first funding period had their research term renewed”, said the representative of the EKFK, Prof. Dr. Thomas Fischer, director of the Department of Hematology and Oncology Magdeburg.  “In addition, three new scholarship holders from the Department of General, Visceral, and Vascular Surgery, the Department of Throat, Nose and Ear Medicine and the Institute of Pathology were able to be added to the research grant.  All three doctors have already started their research projects and have been integrated into the qualification program of the Else Kröner Research College.
