HEALTH CAMPUS IMMUNOLOGY, INFECTIOLOGY AND INFLAMMATION

Further funding for the scientific careers of young doctors

Medical research is an important basis for the future of health care. The Else Kröner-Fresenius Foundation places an emphasis on funding young, highly qualified doctors interested in demanding research projects in addition to their daily work at the clinic. This is made possible by the Else Kröner Research Colleges (EKFK) at university campuses throughout Germany. In the first funding period (2014-2017), such an innovative reasearch college was successfully established at the University Hospital Magdeburg with a total of a million Euro in funding.

These young doctors are a gain for science, but remain active in the clinic. This is made possible by optimized working conditions, which allow members of these research colleges to start a career as a „Clinician Scientist“ through cross-disciplinary training and research programs. This combination of state of the art independent research and continuation of clinical work with the goal of becoming a "Facharzt" (specialist registrar/consultant) is unique.

After the conclusion of the first funding period and a period of temporary financing, the Else Kröner Research College at the University Hospital Magdeburg was renewed for a second funding period of three years (2018 - 2021).  The Else Kröner Research College, with the title "The significance of inflammatory microenvironments for carcinogenesis", will initially offer 11 rotating positions for young doctors, who will have the opportunity to devote 12 months to research. Applications are welcome from all clinics as long as they fit the topic of the research college.

The speakers for the college, Prof. Thomas Fischer and Prof. Thomas Tüting, call for all clinics and interested candidates to apply with research ideas related to the topic of the college for the new funding period! The researchers should be in the second or third year of their Facharzt and have a Dr. med. degree.
