The Brakes of the Immune System – How Regulatory T-Cells are Controlled

Researchers from the Institute for Molecular and Clinical Immunology at the Otto-von-Guericke University (OvGU) Magdeburg and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig conducted research on how regulatory T-Cells (Tregs), the brakes of our immune system, are brought back to their original state after their work is done.  They determined that Tregs multiply faster than conventional T cells, but also die more often. They live life in the fast lane.

Helicobacter pylori – A Small Germ with a Large Influence

Scientists from the University Hospital Magdeburg and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig worked together to research the effect of an infection with the stomach bacterium Helicobacter pylori on the composition of the bacterial colonies – the so-called microbiome – in various ecological niches in the upper digestive system.

The Symposium “Infections in Hematology and Oncology” took place on the 18th of January 2017 under the scientific leadership of Dr. med. Enrico Schalk and Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Fischer from the Department of Hematology and Oncology. These lectures were certified by the medical association as a training event and were well visited with around 60 audience members.
