INSTITUTE OF INFLAMMATION AND NEURODEGENERATION

Welcome to the Institute of Inflammation and Neurodegeneration

We are investigating the complex interactions between the nervous and immune systems in health and disease.

The diverse actions of the immune system are essential for healthy development but also for the initiation and progression of various diseases of the central nervous system (CNS). The contribution of innate and adaptive immune cells located in the CNS is crucial for these processes. Furthermore, factors outside the CNS such as systemic inflammation, infection, and the gut microbiome have also been associated with the progression of neurodegenerative diseases.

We aim to shed light on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of interactions between the immune and nervous systems and identify the determinants that foster healthy aging or lead to neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.
